Not having expectations is extremely important! But I must say, getting back together with an ex and you run the risk of falling back into to the same destructive patterns that led to your break up. That is unless, you make a proactive effort to change something!

Long-distance relationships can be really tough work, and it takes a lot of commitment on both sides. If you have deep feelings for this guy you'll know what I mean. Inevitably when you are not together you may start to have worries and suspicions about his commitment to the relationship, especially if he is acting coolly towards you. Since you met online you have to consider that the image that you have created of this person may not be entirely accurate and complete. In these circumstances, the mind is very good at projecting our wishes of an ideal partner onto somebody we hardly know. Also the relationship probably doesn't have the strong emotional bond that would have arisen by spending a lot of time together, and then spending some time apart, as long-term couples often do.

It might be very difficult to do it, but one approach might be to back off a little, but let him know you are open to get to know him better, should he be prepared to make the time for you. But the main point is that he has to make some effort to get to know you and show some interest in having a relationship with you. People make time for what they want to. It's not much fun chasing someone who's just not interested, and besides you have better things to do I am sure. Ultimately it's up to you, but if this guy still shows no signs of interest, then it would seem your friends may be right.

I don't have anyone to talk about this to, so I am very glad I found this site. I hope it helps me make the right decision.

I have been in a long-distance relationship for a few months now. The guy and me both hate online dating, but go figure that's how we met. Both our friends/family would not be supportive of this if they knew the truth so we have been telling them we met up this summer. We have been talking online at first, then email, and phone. We used to spend hours on the phone every night. Now it's not so much. I want to meet him and see where things go.

I really have feeling for this guy, which is crazy to me, but I can't deny it. But with his work schedule he is very unavailable this time of year. It seems less and less likely it's going to happen for us, but I wanna hold on and believe that love can find me. I have waited 2 years to find someone decent and worth dating, then I met this dream guy. I want to have faith and believe it will work itself out, but everyone I know tells me if he really was into me he'd make time to spend with me and hang out with me and start a relationship with me.

So I am looking for advice on what to do.
