What Do You Want to Do?

September 7th, 2006

Does this sound familiar?

What do you want to do? I don’t care, what do you want to do?

Too often we’re so afraid of making the ‘wrong’ decision about our dating plans that we’re settling for something that is either boring or no fun at all.

Or you’ve read the latest dating tips and wonder who is actually doing these activities.

Here are some realistic and inexpensive ways to really get a date off on the right foot – and have some fun in the process.

Head to the local park – Walking around is not only fun, but free. You could even pack a picnic for an afternoon date without being too fancy.

Think about your city like a tourist would – Scout out some of the local historical sites or museums. Everyone likes to learn about where they live, why not make a date out of it?

Head to your local bookstore – Everyone has something that they like to read whether it’s magazines or thick novels. Why not head to the look book ship, pick up a few cups of coffee and enjoy reading together? It’s cheap and it allows you both to get to know each other without feeling the pressure to talk nonstop.

In short, you can make a date out of anything that you do to have fun. Instead of limiting yourself with movies and dinner, why not get away from the other couples and try something different?

Don’t Pick Another Boring First Date Movie

August 21st, 2006

Going to movies will never go out of style for dating.

Not only do you get to have an instant conversation starter, but it also allows you to have the perfect, low pressure date that will show him or her how great of a catch you are.

But you need to pick the RIGHT movie.

First of all, contrary to popular belief, the romantic comedies aren’t always the best way to go. Not only can they include high pressure romantic situations – which no first date needs – but they can also include a lot of sex and other uncomfortable scenes. And you never want to have an uncomfortable date that thinks that you’re thinking about what’s going on in the movie.

You need to pick something light and funny, but without anything that might make your date uncomfortable.

In short, you need to do your homework.

Before you head out to a date, you can always ask if there’s something that they might want to see. That always scores points and shows that you’re conscientious about their preferences.

If they’re not particular or they won’t give you any ideas, you might want to check out the local listings or the local reviews to see what all of the latest movies are about.

Things that you shouldn’t pick:

  • Horror – unless they’ve said that they like it
  • Anything too sexual in nature
  • Cartoons – see horror explanation
  • Anything too romantic

Of course, that sounds like it doesn’t leave much. But notice that ‘action’ isn’t on that list – here’s why.

Some action movies are actually quite interesting and smart as well as humorous. By combining all of these elements, you’ll have a great picture to talk about as well as enjoy. Spy movies tend to work well and they can include romantic plot lines – think Bourne Identity.

Or there’s always the slapstick comedy that might not be adored by your date, and in that case, talk about how horrible it was when the lights come back on.

That always makes for good conversation as well.

Generally Speaking, You Have to be Specific

August 4th, 2006

With everyone that’s taking advantage of online dating, you might be surprised to find an online dating site that caters to your individual needs. For example, if you’re interested in dating other Christians, you can find dozens of Christian dating sites. Interested in those of the Jewish persuasion? There are sites for that too. Have slightly kinkier interests? You can find online dating services for your fetish needs.

In short, you don’t have to hunt too hard to find exactly what you want.

So, how do you find these sites? All you really have to do is pick something that’s important to you – spiritual beliefs, common interests, for example – and then put that into a search engine with the words ‘online dating.’

And sit back and find the right site for you.

Most online dating sites will even let you wander around in them without signing up. You can see what kinds of people are there, what kinds of articles are posted, and if there are any other special things that you can take advantage of.

But since you’ve already picked out your common interests, you’ll probably get excited about online dating and want to get started on finding the right person for you.

Here are some examples of specific online dating sites (but there are plenty more too):

Jdate.com – Jewish dating

Muslima.com – Muslim dating

Christiancafe.com – Christian dating

eHarmony.com – based on personality traits

There are even location specific dating sites as well.

Know what you want (or what you don’t want?), try narrowing your choices to increase your success.
