Just when you thought you had enough questions to answer on an online dating site, SelectSmart.com and Vajoe.com come along to ask you about your political affiliation and ideas. These online sites are taking the main idea of online dating and matching you up with the best candidate for you – rather than matching you up with someone to spend your Friday night with.
Okay, so you’re not going to find the love of your life, but you are going to answer questions about what you feel about abortion, immigration, taxes, same sex marriage, etc. This is going to help decide which candidate right now should get your vote in the next presidential election.
But, in a sense, you are trying to set up a ‘date’ with the next presidential election. You want to know what the candidates have to offer before you make your final choice. And if you’re not sure what you want, these websites can help you pick the right person for your beliefs and your current living situation.
Even if you have no idea who is running or what they stand for, you can get an inside look at their ideas and beliefs to help you start making up your mind.
Your love life doesn’t have to stop during the election year, but you might want to think about other candidates for your country too. Your love life can wait for one night. Online dating apparently isn’t just for love; it’s for matching up with the right leader too.

There’s never enough time in the world anymore, especially when it comes to finding the love of your life – or is there? With SpeedDate.com, it seems that if you have three minutes to spare, they think they can find you someone to date. Developed as a business class project at first, this San Mateo, California site is hoping to help singles “hook-up” with video chats instead of the ‘slow’ style online dating scene.
With no subscription fees yet, interested people can sign up on the site, give a few details about who they are and then sign up for one of the speed dating sessions. Instead of having to converse with someone for months before you get to see them or to figure out whether or not they are right for you, speeddate.com helps you quickly punch ‘yes’ or ‘no’ at the end of each date to give your review. If you both hit ‘yes,’ then you will be able to talk more through the actual dating site.
While this does seem to cut through the hassles of other dating sites (like long forms and questionnaires), this site also seems like more of a gimmick than an actual place to meet someone to have a relationship with. Sure, you might meet someone who’s as adventurous as you are – but does that make them someone to walk down an aisle with? Or should we say, run down an aisle with? Only time will tell on this one.
Though we’re certain the answer will be clear soon enough.
Do you have any comments, complaints or something to say about SpeedDate.com? Did you meet someone special on this site? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Your opinion matters!

Even if you’ve been on hundreds of first dates, they never seem to get any easier, do they? Those first few minutes are always awkward and strained as you search to find something you have in common. You’ll be happy to know that this is so common that hundreds of books and websites have been written solely to give advice on how to break the ice during that first date.
Of course, more advice can’t hurt.
When you’re out on this first date, you might want to remember that you’re not the only one that’s nervous. If neither of you know each other, it’s going to be quite normal for the both of you to have some troubles talking at first. What you might want to do is have something immediately that you can talk about so that you don’t have to think about where to begin. You can even practice it if you want to.
Or you can do something that doesn’t involve a lot of talking first during your date – i.e. a movie – so that you both have something to discuss when you’re eating. Even if you don’t have anything else in common, you will have the movie.
The point of breaking the ice is to make you both comfortable enough to talk as though you’ve known each other for years or to talk enough to get to know each other a little better. And from there, you might continue the conversation on the next date.
