MySpace as an Online Dating Tool

May 30th, 2007

If you don’t already have a MySpace profile, you’re one of the few. Nearly everyone has one or more mySpace pages and profiles that are helping to connect people across the globe. And because you get to list your marital status and your reason for being on the webpage, you can easily use your page for a subtle online dating scene.

Without the obvious push towards dating on MySpace, you have the ability to talk with others that you might want to date WITHOUT the pressure. Simply accept new friends or don’t – the rejection is painless. And because you are usually found through your friends, it is nearly a matchmaking system as well. If your friends accepted that person, maybe you should too.

While you can use MySpace as a dating tool, you need to remember that many people use MySpace and other social networking sites to chat and make friends – don’t assume people are there to find a date.

When you are looking to make MySpace your dating tool, you will want to follow these tips:

  • Have a good picture on your page, maybe several in your photo album
  • Don’t have pictures with other dates you’ve been on – that can make you look attached and unavailable
  • Take some time creating a fun page that highlights your interests and your personality
  • Talk to someone else that has a mySpace page you like to get advice
  • Read through profiles over MySpace to meet other people

By using the MySpace format, you will be able to converse with other potential dates – all without providing your email address or other personal information. It’s safe, it’s free, and it’s fun for everyone to try.

Do you have any comments, complaints or something to say about MySpace.com? Did you meet someone special on this site? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Your opinion matters!

Taking Your Love on Vacation

January 31st, 2007

A new way to approach online dating is to begin on the actual site, but then meet up for a fun activity that will allow you to interact with potential mates. And while this doesn’t seem like anything new, these activities aren’t limited to mixers and other social events – they’re heading on cruises and out to exotic locales to see if love is truly in the air in a vacation type setting.

When you step outside of your everyday life, you get to try new things and in doing so, you might be able to be more open to potential mates. Without the distractions of your life, you aren’t going to make excuses about going out and you’re not going to stay at home by yourself.

These dating vacations can be slightly more expensive than heading to the local singles night at your favorite bar, but they’re really a better opportunity to focus on what you really want: a partner.

You can start by talking with various online daters and then all meeting up on a cruise type setting, allowing you to bring your conversations into real life to see if any connection is there. And with fun activities that are specially designed to hook up singles, you’ll have so much fun that you may even forget to be nervous.

In the end, a singles vacation is something that takes you outside of the norm and allows you to be more relaxed when meeting other people. And even if you don’t meet someone new, you might find new friends that you will meet with outside of the cruise. Or maybe you’ll just pick up a new fondness for dance lessons.

Cell phone + online dating = True love?

December 28th, 2006

If you thought that online dating was convenient, you haven’t seen anything yet. Since you’re using your cell phone for everything else, why not use it for dating too?

Many online dating services are now offering you the chance to post your profile over your phone as well as get messaged whenever potential dates are nearby to you – using GPS technology. Instead of having to look for a date, you just have to wait for the ring of your cell. Just to mention a few, new sites such as Webdate.com, WebdateMobile.com and Fling Mobile offer a whole range of mobile dating and mobile chat services, some of which are totally free.

Worldwide, there are now more cell phones than personal computers, so it’s not surprising that businesses are suddenly taking notice of the huge potential that mobile dating has to offer. However, this kind of service is quite new and not used by a large number of the population – which limits your dating pool at the current moment. Mobile phone users tend to be young people and often are seeking fun rather than dates. But as more people begin to uncover the possibility that dating might just be a keypad away, there’s no telling where this mobile dating can lead.

Instead of being tied down to your computer, you’ll be able to actually get out and meet people. Many are saying that these kinds of meet-up services work very well for meeting new friends – and who knows where those kinds of relationships can go?
