A Dose of Dating Reality

March 21st, 2008

Let’s be honest for a moment, you want more from your love life. We all do. Even if we’re in great relationships or we are satisfied with being single, we want MORE. And that’s one of the best reasons for online dating in the first place.

It gives you more – more than you can handle in most instances.

You get to meet more people than you might have on your own by sitting in one bar with your girl friends or guy friends and you don’t even have to buy a sip of alcohol or risk getting hit on by someone you don’t like. Online dating puts you in control and it puts you in the driver’s seat.

No more wasting time throwing out a line with bait and just hoping that you’ve picked the right spot. Everyone on the site, well, nearly everyone, wants to find someone to love, or maybe just like, for the night. This means that you’re more than likely to find exactly who you’re looking for.

Or at least have fun trying.

The fact is that if you aren’t dating online, you’re probably not dating much at all. You’re relying on your friends for blind dates and for their exes. And that’s just not a recipe for success. But you already knew that, didn’t you?

No one’s hanging out at bars anymore, at least, not to pick up a date. They’re going there with their dates – not a great way to find someone who’s single, is it?

You already know that online dating is the way to go, but this little reality check may just get you started.

You Need a Dating Strategy – Now! Part One

March 5th, 2008

You have a strategy for everything in your life – moving, your job, your schedule, etc. But when it comes to dating, we seem to think that having a strategy somehow takes the ‘fun’ out of it. However, if you’re spending more nights alone than you might like, maybe it’s time to stop hoping for love and to start scoping for love.

Using a strategy.

While different strategies have worked for different people, there are many that have been used time and time again with success. Online dating is a complicated process, but here’s what you need to do to get started. We’ll cover some other techniques next week too.

Be specific – When you’re trying to find a dating site, try to find one that caters to your specific likes (and dislikes). This isn’t about finding a person to date; this search should be about finding THE person who you want to spend time with.

Positivity matters – Focus on what you want, as opposed to what you don’t want. You want prospective people you date to think you’re a happy and outgoing person who looks for the good in everything… unless you’re on a dating site that wants you to be negative.

Showcase your talents and hobbies – Don’t be afraid to talk about what you can do. This is something that will set you apart from the rest of the crowd.

Need more? Stay tuned.

Getting Through the Winter Dating Blues

January 5th, 2008

Winter is finally here in all of its frosty glory. With the holidays gone, it’s time to start staying indoors and bundling up from the bold. But that doesn’t really work too well when you want to meet someone special.

Or does it?

Leave the winter blues behind you with online dating tricks like these:

Register at multiple dating sites – Not only will you get to talk to more people, but you’re going to increase your chances of meeting the right person.

Be the bold one – If you’re usually the one who asks the other person out, try something different and make the first move. And vice versa. If you find that you’re typically the one doing the asking, see if someone else asks you out first.

Change your online profile – While it’s not spring, why not spring clean your online dating profile? Add a joke or a list of what you got for Christmas. Create something fun that someone would want to read in order to get to know you better.

Make a goal – Whether it’s a date a month or a date per week, create goals for yourself to get you and your date out of the house. Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the weather. And with someone else to enjoy it with, you might forget about the wind chill.
