Is This the End of Online Dating?

February 20th, 2007

As with many ways of meeting new people to date, online dating has its place in the land of singles. However, as some people say, have online dating services reached their natural limit recent years? The question is whether it’s online dating itself that is the cause or if people need more from online dating than they are getting right now.

Online dating used to be the easy way to meet people without having to go out and get rejected time and time again. You get to meet people, browse their profiles until you find someone that’s a match, and then decide whether or not to meet them in real life. But as common as this dating style has become, it’s also becoming a tired way of meeting other singles. To help refresh online dating, some sites are offering better services to help increase the odds of your success.

Match.com is offering services for actually introducing people to each other, which allows the dating field to be more personalized and custom fit for each online dater. Instead of choosing people that you think might be good for you, you allow an objective person into the transaction, creating an increased chance of compatibility.

Other dating services are offering GPS tracking abilities that will show you when other online daters are in your area via your cell phone. This allows you to meet others when you’re out and about, rather than creating the tremendous pressure of a date situation.

In the end, online dating services will continue to offer more services that will spice up the dating field and if you’re insistent on using the online method of meeting people, you will get more for your money and more likely meet the right person for you because of these innovations.

Cell phone + online dating = True love?

December 28th, 2006

If you thought that online dating was convenient, you haven’t seen anything yet. Since you’re using your cell phone for everything else, why not use it for dating too?

Many online dating services are now offering you the chance to post your profile over your phone as well as get messaged whenever potential dates are nearby to you – using GPS technology. Instead of having to look for a date, you just have to wait for the ring of your cell. Just to mention a few, new sites such as Webdate.com, WebdateMobile.com and Fling Mobile offer a whole range of mobile dating and mobile chat services, some of which are totally free.

Worldwide, there are now more cell phones than personal computers, so it’s not surprising that businesses are suddenly taking notice of the huge potential that mobile dating has to offer. However, this kind of service is quite new and not used by a large number of the population – which limits your dating pool at the current moment. Mobile phone users tend to be young people and often are seeking fun rather than dates. But as more people begin to uncover the possibility that dating might just be a keypad away, there’s no telling where this mobile dating can lead.

Instead of being tied down to your computer, you’ll be able to actually get out and meet people. Many are saying that these kinds of meet-up services work very well for meeting new friends – and who knows where those kinds of relationships can go?
