Free Online Dating vs. Pay Online Dating

January 5th, 2007

Dating online has never been easier. Not only are there numerous websites to choose from with various formats, but there are also a number of specialized online dating sites that range from religious backgrounds to tastes in wine. However, one thing still separates these websites from each other – whether you pay or not. And does that really make a difference?

Many people say that you do get what you pay for when it comes to online dating. Is it true that the more money you invest in your online dating experience, the more you tend to get in return, or that free dating sites are full of time wasters? If you think about it, the cost of paid online dating, usually around $20 to $30 per month, is really not that great when you compare it with what you would spend on other leisure and social activities such as bars and clubs.

Another thing to remember is that with pay sites, membership usually requires payment by credit card. This gives some added peace of mind that the person is who they say they are, though there’s no guarantee.

While there are a few excellent 100% free dating services, there are some which claim to offer a free service, but which are for all purposes in fact pay sites. After taking the time to fill in the details to become a member, you find that you have only limited access to the features of the site. For example some dating services will allow you to post your profile for free, but will not allow you to interact with other members until you pay a fee. Others will allow you to interact, but only through specific channels – email, for example as opposed to video cams.

If you’re new to the waters of online dating, the free websites can be a great way to get your feet wet. However, they can also be filled with people who just want to see what online dating is all about.

When you’re paying for a service, you tend to be more serious about actually meeting people and wanting to find a relationship. But if you’re short on money, free online dating sites do exist and you can use them to find your Mr. or Mrs. Right. But just as with finding any other dating website, be sure to read some reviews before you sign up. And never ever give out your personal information to anyone that asks.

What To Do When a Date Goes Bad

November 22nd, 2006

The longer you date, the more likely you are to have a bad dating experience. Even if you’ve hand-selected the person on the Internet, taken the time to get to know them, and actually talked to them on the phone, nothing compares to the actual experience of the date. So, what do you do if things aren’t going exactly as you planned?

First of all, the first date can be an intense experience. Whether you admit to it or not, you’re trying to impress the other person, trying to show off and trying to be more than you actually are – and that can be a recipe for disaster. You’re both nervous, you both are saying things that you wish you could take back…is there anything that you can do?

If your date is rude or disrespectful, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t end your date immediately. You don’t need to deal with anyone that’s not being at least courteous to you. Simply get up from the table, thank them for their time, pay your part of the bill, and leave. It might seem rude, but if you’re both having a bad time, why not cut your losses and run?

If you get the sense that your date is just nervous, you might want to stick it out for a while and try another date when you’re both a little used to each other. There can be a world of difference between those two meetings.

However, if you just get a hunch about someone, you might want to end the date. Intuition is a powerful mental ability that can alert you to someone who may be dangerous – always trust your gut. It’s worth having to pay for your meal and call a cab to race home.

You Don’t Have to Meet Them, Do You?

October 21st, 2006

The world of technology has opened up a whole new can of worms for dating situations. It might be months before you ever see anyone in person or you might not meet them for longer. Is there something wrong with this way of dating?

With all of the talk about internet safety and dating, you might be hesitant to meet that special someone, so why not take it off of the computer screen and into another medium – the phone?

While you might want to be a bit careful with the ever-present Caller ID systems (try getting an unlisted number or blocking your phone number before you talk), talking on the phone can give you a better sense of the person that you have been virtually chatting with. It will also bring a new level of interaction to your blossoming relationship and create a new level of intimacy as well.

There are also webcams that you can use to start seeing each other when you’re talking – if you’d like. The point is that when you’re not quite ready to meet someone, but you’re definitely interested in trying something new with someone that you’ve met, go get your phone out or look into free internet phone services.

You might be surprised to find that your phone calls add up to love.
