You Need a Dating Strategy – Now! Part One

March 5th, 2008

You have a strategy for everything in your life – moving, your job, your schedule, etc. But when it comes to dating, we seem to think that having a strategy somehow takes the ‘fun’ out of it. However, if you’re spending more nights alone than you might like, maybe it’s time to stop hoping for love and to start scoping for love.

Using a strategy.

While different strategies have worked for different people, there are many that have been used time and time again with success. Online dating is a complicated process, but here’s what you need to do to get started. We’ll cover some other techniques next week too.

Be specific – When you’re trying to find a dating site, try to find one that caters to your specific likes (and dislikes). This isn’t about finding a person to date; this search should be about finding THE person who you want to spend time with.

Positivity matters – Focus on what you want, as opposed to what you don’t want. You want prospective people you date to think you’re a happy and outgoing person who looks for the good in everything… unless you’re on a dating site that wants you to be negative.

Showcase your talents and hobbies – Don’t be afraid to talk about what you can do. This is something that will set you apart from the rest of the crowd.

100% Free, But Will It Work?

November 12th, 2007

Just like every other week, there’s a new dating website to explore. At Mingle2.com, you can meet thousands of singles in and around your local area without having to pay a penny. Of course, that’s what all the dating websites say, so what does this site have to offer that the others don’t?

First of all, the opening page of Mingle2 is very easy to read and to navigate. The top of the page sends you right to a link to sign up, if you like, or you can browse a few dating profiles right on the home page.

If you just want to try it out, go to their sign up page where you can sign up in 60 seconds (or less, depending on how fast you type) and start looking for a date for this weekend.

There’s a community forum where you can interact with other singles, or you can go the ‘normal’ route by posting your picture, some details about yourself and what you are looking for – and then wait for people to contact you.

Is it a successful way to date? If you’re looking for a risk free way to jump into the world of online dating, this is certainly a good place for you. When you’re just beginning to reenter the dating world, it seems like Mingle2 has a full range of prospective dates from the younger college set to the long out of college singles.

But only you can try it out and see if 100% free adds up to successful dating.

Do you have any comments, complaints or something to say about Mingle2.com? Did you meet someone special on this site? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Your opinion matters!

Leave a comment on: Mingle2.com.

Online Dating: Are You Taking It Seriously?

October 12th, 2007

Getting online is easy, but finding love is a bit harder.

Even with the hundreds of different types of dating sites, plus the various subsets of these online dating sites, it seems like the demand is greater than ever. So this begs the question – are people actually getting serious about online dating?

Have you signed up at multiple sites? This generally makes you more scattered when you are talking with people because you can’t always remember who you’ve contacted or talked with already. And if the other people find out, it might look like you’re ‘cheating’ on them.

Have you tried dating IRL (in real life)? If you haven’t gotten to the ‘we’re actually going to meet’ stage, you aren’t really being serious about finding love. You need to actually meet a person, um, in person in order to see if you have chemistry – and to see if they’re actually a living, breathing person.

Do you know what you’re looking for? While there are some qualities that you won’t learn about until after you meet, you do need to have some idea of what you want in a partner before you head to an online dating site. Otherwise, it’s a lot easier to say that you haven’t met the ‘right’ person yet.

Are you constantly contacting new people or are you trying to get to know just a few? When you’re playing the online dating field, you probably have five or six people you’re talking to – but that’s great for quantity, not so great for quality. You need to get to know people before you can get into a solid relationship.

And if you haven’t thought about any of these questions before now – you already know that you’re not really interested in dating anyone from an online site. But it’s fun anyways to pretend.
