Moon Over Miami

July 26th, 2010

Summer time is in high gear, and that means plenty of opportunities to get “out and about” to meet other singles. Online dating services are of course a great way to meet up with someone whose interests match with your own, but there will always be a role for in person, face to face interactions when it comes to the dating world.

That’s why Match.com conducted its annual Singles Summer Travel Survey to find the very best places for singles to travel this year if they want to find lots of opportunities to meet other singles.

And this year’s winner? Miami, Florida, of course! Who wouldn’t want to take a summer trip to this beautiful city which is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches to be found anywhere?

In fact, it is the availability of beautiful beaches that most singles say is one of the major deciding factors in their choosing of a summer vacation destination. A great beach is a “must have” for over 70% of the singles who responded to the survey, with a great swimming pool coming in a distant second with about 43% of the singles saying it was a “must have” for them.

If you can’t make it to Miami this year, though, take heart because there are a number of other great beach destinations that are also top picks for singles. These include Manhattan Beach, California; Waikiki Beach, Hawaii; and South Padre Island, Texas. So wherever you might be, there’s a great beach near you for meeting and connecting with other singles this summer!

Summer Lovin’

July 13th, 2009

Aahhh, summer time. There’s nothing else quite like it. The days are warm, the evenings are long, and it’s a time of year when many singles find themselves desperately wanting to find a great partner. After all, with all of those great summer activities to choose from, who wants to be without a special someone to share it all with?

Summer is a great time to meet new people, especially via online dating sites. Why? Because there is so much to do and so many choices for activities it’s relatively easy to set up all kinds of dating activities. Some of the most common include walking, hiking, riding bikes, outdoor events, an evening drink on the patio of a favorite café, and much more.

As much fun as it is to date during the summer time, it’s also a time of year when it’s easy to fall into the trap of getting too serious too soon. There’s more temptation around since people tend to dress in more revealing clothes, and because of the summer emphasis on leisure time it’s easy to be lulled into a perspective that’s not based on the reality of everyday life.

The best approach is to enjoy each date to its fullest, taking the time to get to know the other person as in depth as possible. However, be aware of the risks that come with getting too serious too soon. Enjoy the summer, enjoy each other, and if you think the relationship is promising then continue it into fall and winter to see just how far it might take you.

Can a Summer Romance be TOO Hot?

September 4th, 2008

Now that we’re entering the sweltering days of summer, it’s time to rethink your current dating plans.

After all, it’s a little too hot for the beach and even hotter for that long romantic walk you had planned. So, it’s time to go to Plan B, C, D, E….

There are plenty of ways to stay cool and have a great time on a date.

  • Go to the movies – Try heading to your local movie theatre for some back to back flicks. Each of you can choose one movie to see and hang out in their air conditioned rec area between the show times.
  • Head to the bookstore – Since bookstores often have much more than just books these days, why not take a date there. Split up to look at things you might want to buy and then find one of those comfy couches to read until the sun goes down.
  • Try the museum – If you’re looking for a little culture, head to the museum. It’s generally free for the regular exhibits and it’s always cool. They also tend to have great eating spaces where you can discuss your favorite artists.
  • Go for a drive – If you one of you owns a convertible or isn’t opposed to renting one for a day, take a drive around the town or to any nearby tourist areas. Sure, gas is pricey these days, but one day on the road might be just the right way to start a relationship. And that’s worth it.
