Bought the 6 months package with this website, hopefully looking for a long term relationship, but I set my standards low at first saying to myself "If I can get one single date within the 6 months, it would have been worth it!".

Not a single date, in fact, I only talked with 2 women in the first month, we sent around 3 replied between us, and then suddenly they don't message back. After that, I sent a good amount of messages and no one ever replied, I even got one blacklist for no reason. My theory (apart from the likelihood of them not wanting to message) is that the website doesn't say if any of those users are under a paid account or have ceased their subscriptions, which could be why they don't message.

On the last month, I phoned Match to stop my paying subscription, and told them of this theory, no matter what I said, the person on the phone always suggested that I need to keep paying, this may be to suggest more time but the way he said it and kept suggesting it felt like he was pressuring me to keep paying. Of course, only because I am low on dosh I had to close.

That was my experience, £60 down the drain (thankfully I got money off through one of their celebration e-mails), if Match had a lifetime membership fee I would have stayed and keep trying, sadly the whole experience was just me sending messages to accounts I am not even 100% sure are active.

3 Stars for at least being more widely available, and the 2 I did talk to meant I did something right, and it was easy to use, and I know it's done more justice to others, just not for me this time.

@Nancy Erskine Crabtree Hi, just click the tiny "account" link at the top of the page and you can find all of the settings there to switch-off your account, deactivate your profile or change your subscription. You can also stop the emails that they send to you if you want. You should not need to re-subscribe to do this. If you just cancelled your paid membership then you would have converted automatically back to a free member. That must be why your profile is still active on the site. Just log in as before and you should be able to change it.

@Mary Match.com kept sending me people who were clearly no match, such as men who were "separated.". But what really bothers me is that they keep sending out your profile, as part of other people's "Daily Five," even after you've resigned your membership and they can't contact you. Isn't this fraudulent?

I've read dozens of reviews for various sites and they all seem to share the same pattern, bad reviews outnumber the good ones 10-1!! i believe I'm quite a decent fella but I've been single for some time. On these sites, much like in real life, women claim to want a nice guy, you know, 'the perfect man' stuff! Fact is, they don't care if you're a good person, they are only interested if you have god-like looks and a chiselled body!! I'm no oil painting but I'm certainly not ugly. I haven't had sex for a long time but that's some way down the list of what I'm looking for! I would rather spend my entire monthly wage spoiling a great girl than going out with the lads! Has this got me any nearer to a meaningful relationship? Of course not! My philosophy is simple... it's 2011, we no longer have to do all the chasing! If a girl is genuinely interested, she will make the effort to talk to you! Using this theory I may be single for the rest of my life but it's better than having my feelings smashed by some superficial tart on an ego trip!!

@John Baker Look under the "my account" tab, the buttons to switch off your account and hide profile are in there. They work.

The good -- There are TONS of profiles here. Many very attractive women. A robust search engine. A number of alternate ways to find appropriate mates other than searching.

The bad -- Tons of profiles seem to be a double edged sword. There are lots of women to email, and then... nothing. On this site I get perhaps a third the response rate of OkC and PoF. You have to pay extra to see if women have read your email.

This site has a ton of upsells -- chemistry.com, matchTalk (to call them), to see if they're reading your emails... They're likely not worth it.

    -Alex
