CampusHook is a site that’s intended for college and university students, though anyone can join. The website has been around for some time but has probably lost much of its audience to much bigger social sites like Facebook. Incidentally, Campus Hook does have a more popular "sister site" called Student.com - it's not clear if this is a replacement of the former one. On registering, you won’t automatically have a profile - this step needs to be done afterwards. Students can create a "public profile" for themselves and upload photos - this is linked to their place of study. It isn’t possible to search for other people’s profiles directly (at least I couldn’t find a way after 10 minutes trying to find one). Instead, one must browse through a list of colleges organized by country and then by state. This however is both frustrating and time-consuming since many links are empty, and so the whole process feels more like a desperate attempt to find anyone “alive” on the site.
There’s a picture voting button that allows you to flick through photos, and rate them on a scale of one-to-ten. At least with this, you’ll get to see other profiles (provided they have created one). A user forum lets members follow discussions and contribute if they wish. There’s also a group section with user posting, but this was found to be overrun with spam.
Campus Hook is a site for students and offers some social networking possibilities but its unconventional layout and usage make it difficult to navigate. Given its dwindling user base, prospective students are probably better off sticking to more populated sites like Facebook or MySpace.
