Cupid.com is a dating community with a focus on users' local dating scene. This site operates on the philosophy that the best way for its members to find romance is to allow them to do the matchmaking on their own. The site lets its users create a profile that includes personal photographs, a brief bio, a physical description, plus lists of their personal interests. After creating a personal profile, users can browse the profiles of hundreds of other singles in their geographic region. Most new members of Cupid.com are surprised at just how many other people in their area share their interests - and share their desire to initiate a romantic relationship.
One interesting feature of Cupid.com is its ability to let members maintain and update personal weblogs - journals that keep the online community of other Cupid.com members up-to-date as to what the person maintaining the weblog is doing. The opportunity to maintain is extended to even the free Basic members of Cupid.com. Gold members have additional perks, such as the ability to comment on other members' weblogs, plus the ability to send other members unlimited e-mail and instant messages.

Yep, this site is a scam, as has been described previously here. The cancelling process is awkward, although I used paypal and so was able to cancel the subscription within paypal details. A tricky aspect of this site is that it harvests people's details. It is unclear if you can actually remove your details from the site, in particular it doesn't seem to allow you to remove your profile pic. I may try to contact google to try to get their advertising campaign stopped.
I was on that crappy site a while ago. Cancelled my account when I read comments about what they are really about. Abused hell out of them too and had no problems at all getting my membership deleted. I did pay 10 bucks a couple of times but was via mobile and not by credit card. But being a glutton for punishment went back on to check out the chat feature and noticed that there were 7 different chat categories and on every single one of them was the exact same people all at once. And talking the same crap to each other having a great time. But did notice that other people were trying to talk to them but got completely ignored. I am thinking that they really own cupid or work for them. Dunno but it seemed strange to me.
I've heard about this site from a supposed dating expert who said it was one of their favorite sites. I did create an account and started to receive messages. Problem, I didn't want any messages from outside my region. Two-thirds of the messages were from people outside the region and I even got messages/winks from people from the States and abroad, which I've of course ignored.
Considering there were a lot of people from Ottawa that sent messages, request chat messages and viewed profiles I've decided to try a subscription. A few of the Ottawa-Gatineau users on the site had also profiles on Zoosk as well. Of course, having profiles on multiple sites can help. I have profiles on Zoosk, E-Harmony, OKCupid.com, Match.com and Tagz.com and considering I was on Cupid, the profile was also shown on its sister sites (though many didn't ask for it, but did accept GirlsDateforFree.com).
Anyways, I've started communications with a couple of users from the country that sounded sincere, but eventually it turned sour as they eventually were telling me they had a precarious bull.... problem and needed my help, usually via money. Well I gave them the boot (or more polite to say a big F....) basically by ignoring them. I noticed that a lot of the messages I've received they gave their e-mail address.
A big mistake probably from me was to add the Cupid app on Facebook, a slew of people send me unwanted messages, but it did stop pretty quick.
The good news though, when I've cancelled the subscription, well before the expiration, I was not charged again. That was probably the most positive thing about the site, is that I didn't get ripped off financially but it was pretty hard in the feelings. I definitely discouraged anyone to use this site.
I was with benaughty, part of cupid, I tried to cancel membership, offered other partner sites to join with same people on it, once cancelled on computer after clicking no to everything, had to ring number and be put on hold for finally confirmation of cancellation, the company is a joke as well as a scam would not touch anything which cupid manage. P.s. I would rate as 0.
It's a scam you idiots! They have the same girl with 3 profiles. If you wink at 30 girls you get 30 relies with in 2 mins regardless of the country. It was fun clogging their system, in between playing Crysis 2.
Like one of the other guys on here, I got BS'd by a woman in Nigeria wanting me to help her pay her hotel bill so she can (be together with me). I also receive many messages from (beautiful looking women), who do not answer the routine question of: What country do you live in? That is not an uncomfortable question to answer for a woman. OK, I'm not here to bash dating sites, but Cupid.com' whom I paid for a three month membership; MUST insist that women are not allowed to claim they live in one country (the USA) and actually reside on another continent... Africa. If it is determined that at least three different women use Cupid.com in this dishonest manner; the paying member of Cupid.com should receive his money back. Are my comments fair?
I became a member of this site but thank god I didn't pay for it, deleted my profile some months ago and still getting emails saying people have looked at my profile, have sent messages to me and tried to chat, but I'm unable to get back on the site, or contact them in any way. So for those that think people won't answer them, maybe it's just that they can't! Please don't use this site. If anybody knows how i can contact cupid to really get my profile deleted please let me know!
The system was purchased in 2009 from the original owner Chief geek. I can attest 100% that ever since they took over I have "0" REAL women contact me. I say again, zero. I "was" a gold member which is a person who paid for the entire year and had all privileges. As a gold member on the OLD cupid I was able to email someone I was interested in and that woman did not need to be a paying member to message me back. It worked. The new cupid does not work. I have messaged many, many women and zero replies, not even a not interested message. I returned messages from so called women and zero reply.
Obviously fake from the beginning and a poorly conducted scam at that (I've seen far better). Don't invest a penny into this site, scope it out as is, free of charge, and you'll notice that people who e-mail you (attractive, fake singles, there to encourage a purchase in order for you to read their messages) will eventually change their place of residence within a few days or weeks. Very poor English grammar, uncompleted and altered profiles, even pictures of beautiful young people you may recognize from Myspace or Facebook. If you have happened to make the mistake of purchasing further services on this site, cancel the card or account asap. Try learning social skills and meeting people face to face instead ;D
Do not join Cupid.com unless you want to be ripped off. I made complaints to the BBB and they failed to respond. The BBB has rated them in simple words as a business as crap. Cupid is owned and operated by Easydate.com. The original cupid.com was owned locally in Newburgh, NY up until December 2009 when the owner known as the "CHIEF GEEK" sold us all out.
Since that time and after my BBB complaints cupid credited me 1 year which expires in August 2011. To date I have ZERO dates from this new cupid site. Compared to the original cupid of which i had at least 3 eye-contacts and messages a day with real women of which I have eventually dated a few. No scam on the old cupid. The new cupid is a total scam. I get these bogus messages and winks from 5000 miles away and from foreign countries. Cupid even messages you as if the actual person messaged you, but they in fact did not. When I reply to what looks like a legit person I never received a response and you can even see that the message you sent was not opened.
Save your cash. Complain to the BBB immediately. If enough of us complain to the BBB as well as offer cupid free TV news on the scam they are, perhaps they will go out of business.
Be warned and for us guys, hit Target or the supermarket to meet women as you have 10000000% better luck compared to cupid where you have a goose egg.
Found a lot of women (which i suspect are under age) on this site trying to promote different pages. Asking you to rate their link....signing up to these sites cost money to rate their link....Do not use this site...if you do, do not talk to women who have not completed their profile or look like they should not be on the site (the sexy ones).
Exact same experience, "easy Ed" charges, credit card cancellations, etc.

Hi everybody, I am a Psych major who spends a lot of time initially becoming a free member and then using a small part of my allocated (research) budget to actually become a paid member on these online dating sites .... all as a part of a research project (The Psychology of Online Dating) I'm in the process of writing up. It's rather interesting.... have read the posts mentioned above and have to agree with the consensus of the majority regarding cupid.com.
Would request you guys to spend a wee bit of time and try out a little experiment - check out benaughty.com as free members and see what similarities you find in the end-user interface with reference to (a) site navigation (b) payment/cancellation procedures (c) account info pages..... ha ha ha ..... they are absolutely identical.
You guys are absolutely right in thinking that the vast majority of "female?" profiles are in fact fictitious. Those of you who are from India will be amazed to find that a number of these "hotties" seem to originate from a place called "Raisen" on both sites. Raisen does in fact exist but it is a small godforsaken town in the middle of nowhere in Central India, leave alone a hotbed for really sexy, bold and sexually starved girlies. The "intelligent" guys who I am now sure own, and run both, the cupid and benaughty domains should really do a bit more homework. Brushing up on local geography before creating and posting these rather alluring profiles..... ha ha ha.
Meanwhile.... suckers there have always been and always will be… which is why these sites flourish! Cheers
Ciao

Hi friends, I m Ajay form India. I joined cupid last month I paid 350 INR per month by credit card. After that have cheated me by doing automatic billing by themselves. These people are fake and cheaters pls don't go for those sites likes, cupid.com, flirt.com, benaughty.com these people created fake domains by different name so they are making people fools. I felt that almost 90% girls profile are fake and everything by doing this things they have cheated so many guys. I will suggest u all people don't go for these sites all. Think before 1000 times before paying them.
Cupid.com is a garbage scam site, cancelling is intentionally difficult. You select cancel and are told a cancellation code will be emailed within a hour and it's good for 2 days. You receive the cancellation code and it says to log in and you will be asked to enter the code, except they never ask you for the code, and you won't find a place anywhere on the site to enter it either. I am going to contact my credit card company and the better business bureau in the jurisdiction of what is probably their dummy corporate address. I am disappointed Google even lists them in their search results. They should be barred from doing business with their unethical sketchy practices.
I wouldn't recommend the site to anyone and most of the 'emails' you receive are generated from within the company itself. I wouldn't be surprised to find out they are using peoples images attached to those fake emails illegally as well.
If i could give the scabs running cupid.com less than one star and still post i would.
It's really intersesting and easy to find the hot ones.
What a rip cupid.com is they advertise local, signed up 5 days ago....none paying (smart thinking) I have had at least 200 profile checks, winks, and emails from 18... to 38... I am 59 and looking for someone that is my age, ya yes this goes to cupid .com.
I would seriously caution anyone thinking of joining cupid.com.
I believe it is run by a Nigerian scam team first because most of the interest I received came from fictional profiles with overly attractive photos and unbelievable initiating emails stating they live in Brooklyn but are originally from Germany with a Scottish-Irish name and have such professions as architect in some third world country Their incredibly poor English grammar and spelling is also a dead give away. Clearly not written by someone American or European. I quit the site after just a few days. Sent complaints and warnings to the customer service people and got no response. I asked for a refund. No response. I started getting strange emails at my regular email address from such names as Victoria Love stating she wanted to meet a nice man and to please respond and she will send photos. Guess they didn't check to see that my address is that of a woman. Received all sorts of other horrible emails about penis enlargement, find hot Korean women, etc. I never clicked on them in order to try to unsubscribe because I was concerned about having any sort of response so I just deleted them.
The email sent to my regular email address from Victoria Love also made reference to my user name on cupid.com which I found to be suspicious. A month later, I noticed a debit taken from my checking account from a dubious company called "Easy Ed." I closed this debit card and will get a new one. I was also charged two international assessment fees with this Easy Ed charge. I wrote once again to cupid.com because I believed this is where the Easy Ed charge originated. They told me that I never actually cancelled because I didn't go through the full process of cancelling. I told them that their business conduct is unethical. I received an email back from the customer service rep named "Victoria" whose English grammar and spelling is so poor and so closely resembles the writing style of the scammers who were posing as members that I believe this company if not run by scam artists is infiltrated by Nigerian scam artists. I strongly advise all to stay away from this website. I give this site a negative rating but have to click on "1" to submit.
All the complaints you have read so far are true. This "dating" site must be run by Nigerians. It looks innocent enough, but if you sign up for the "cheap" 3 day trial, you must choose between Gold and Platinum. No explanation is given to explain the difference. Also, if you read the fine print, you will find that after your "3 day" trial ends, you will be automatically rolled into monthly billing unless you cancel.
In trying to cancel, you must follow obscure links within the site, and go through more levels of security than your average credit card company. Seriously. You will have to click multiple choice selections, re-enter your password, enter one of the fuzzy security codes, reconfirm that yes, you do indeed want to cancel, choose why you want to cancel and after all that, you find out you get yet another security code that will be emailed to you in 2 hours so you'll have to wait to get that before you can continue. Do not waste one minute on this bogus site!
I'm currently a Cupid.com member. All I have to say is save your money and your time. There are so many Spams. Don't be falling in their traps.
