Don Brooks, or whoever you are, you should be sued. For fraud, for deceitful marketing and if being a scumbag was a crime you'd get life without parole. I got 2-3 spambots from this site emailing me each day. For reporting them (and demanding a refund), my account was terminated. Mind you, the spambot accounts were never removed. If people could sue Match.com for fraud why is this guy still in business? For the record, any members (former or otherwise) who'd like to complain, the domain owner's phone/address/email info:

I made the mistake of signing up for this service. There is no one to talk to and they don't respond to customer service requests. I called my bank and they gave me this number to call regarding the charges. 312-661-0102 He said there are no refunds but the terms and conditions talk about pro-rating the refunds. My bank said to call the police which I will because this site does offers social networking yet refuses to deliver. I hope people call this guy and give him a piece of our minds as this is the worst experience i ever had buying something online.

@EVERYONE Alright - So here's the bottom line. The sites up, it's doing what it's doing. Yeah - it's unethical, rude, arrogant and just rather unprofessional to offer "Free" and take it away at the last minute. However - to be strictly business minded. It's not illegal, the account is free. Using the Features of the site alas is not. Which though you me and everyone with common sense knows how wrong and childish it is to advertise in said manner they do try to kiss your ass by telling you your first month is cheaper!.

But wait! ... It only kind-a-is. You can't even pay for the first month at the new "Cheap" rate unless you have the FULL month available.. And no, it's not in their TOS, SA, TOP, or any legal document they own. So sure your first month is 5.99 (4.99 silver) only if you have the full available amount first. When I emailed them they responded telling me to read the payment agreement. To which I did, responded pointing out the above and have yet to receive a response. To me this is cowardice and poor business management. They could easily rectify it by being honest and charging only the first initial promised price we do have the ability to cancel at any time don’t we?... of course.. Is it easy to do? Probably not at all.

However - we’ll see. In short -yeah, I've already found 6 padded accounts. Among many others I'm sure. Yes their ability to deal with situations when put in their place or their unethical and virtually dishonest approach to business is crude and childish. However, yes some accounts are real. Take the few here, and others like myself. Do what was advised. Get a temp credit card, put the 30 on it.

Get the Cheap first month, empty the card into your gas tank after the 4.99(5.99) has been charged. Just be sure you use that promo code! lol. Don’t forget! Also - their TOS says nothing about the Promo Code having a life span.

    One man's opinion and experience.

@Don Brooks Just for grins I googled Don Brooks and gk2gk. Don Brooks led to Donnybrook89. All tied back to gk2gk and then directly to Spencer Koppel. The site owner according to whois. Dirtbag.

@Liar Liar Well, that's a new one. I wish I did own it. But I don't. Really. And as to its growth, I don't know, other than that they advertise a lot on Google, maybe Google works (or do you think that's a scam too?) And, I guess Alexa and Compete.com are complicit in it as well.

There's a big difference between pay dating sites and free ones. Basically you get what you pay for. I found my match on Geek 2 Geek.

As to the practice of automatically renewing, they're doing exactly the same as what Match.com and all the other pay sites do. Match.com even goes one further. They get you to sign up for a "Free trial" membership, all you have to do is give them your credit card info. If you look closely, though, unless you send them a hard copy letter canceling your free membership in the next two days, they charge your credit card on the third day.

@Joe Really???? REALLY? there is clearly a bait and switch here. I was pissed at having wasted so much time creating a profile and then being required to hand over my credit card to interact with anyone. There are too many free sites. Don't claim you have a free membership level that basically just harvests my personal info and then shuts me out if I don't pay up. I've read a ton of complaints from people getting charged repeatedly after canceling because they were one day into a new month and Gk2Gk refuses to refund. Thanks but I'll keep my credit card number out of their hands.
    Greedy geeks suck.

    Alan_Smithee :

They scam you into thinking you'll be able to sign up for free and find a perfect match, and then the moment you see someone you want to express interest in you're informed that all you can do is "wink" at them: where is the justice in that, why even have free accounts set up if you can't even make the first move without having to pay up first?

Wake up dude!! Did you ever go into a cafe or restaurant and they offered you a free meal or cup of coffee? Or did you at sometime go into a shop where they offered you anything you want and you can walk out without paying? I expect not!! So why do you think they are scamming you when they ask for payment to use their service? Free profile is what it says. You join for free, see what you think... if you like it, you pay to upgrade and use the site, if not you get out. Simple! G2K might not be perfect, but slamming them because they are asking you to pay for your use of the site is just stupid.

I made my account last night, and I'm going to go deactivate it after this garbage: free members can message the users who have upgraded to gold, but otherwise all you can do is read any messages sent to you and no one in their right mind is going to pay $27 a month just to say "Hello".

@Don Brooks Liar Liar Mr. Don Brooks. You are the site owner of Gk2gk. You have falsely inflated your member numbers. Just looks at the freakish increase in membership in the last 12 months with no press of real internet chatter to account for it. Real geeks can smell fake. I can't believe you continued to charge my credit card after I cancelled it three times. I reported Gk2gk to the BBB.

    Signed,
    Daddy Dater

I intend to sign up, but first I will buy a disposable credit card from Kmart and put just enough to cover the charges in the account. I will also make sure I have some street person buy it for me so they can not chase me down for non payment. Two can play their game.

This site is bull. They build up a bunch of fake profiles, so that it looks like you have tons of matches. On my list of matches only 2 or so were real. It is a fake site to make money.

Single geeks welcome! Try my site - BrainiacDating.com. It's completely free and has gained just over 15,000 members since Oct 2008 when I started it. So admittedly it's still small compared to the well known sites, but it's free, and growing fast.

What a horrific waste of my time. I was on there for 2 months as a free member. First off they do not give you accurate matches, the age groups are way off. My age limit was 25-35, I was getting 18-56 year olds. Sorry but I'm fairly certain that a 56 year old woman isn't going to be my "Ideal Match". When I did find someone I liked, I could only "wink" at them, no messages. You aren't allowed to message if you don't pay. My main issue with the site is that they censor you, so if you complain about their site they cut that out, if you use the same username on a free site they change your name.

Beware!!! Reoccurring charges are a default condition for signing up. My credit card was charged after a period of unuse, I cancelled my account within hours of the charge and was unable to deny service. I plan on making a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, as I think this practice is unfair. I also found customer service to be non-user friendly and only available through email.

@Mike I found my match here; we're getting married next Feb. It's a great idea, and, while it's a pay site, what's $20 when you figure a date is gonna cost a lot more, even if you just go to a movie and get a snack after (which is what I did). As to the auto-renew, I un-checked the box and it worked fine. I have them to thank for what I hope is a lifetime of happiness. Thanks to them.

Lovely idea, but the execution is absolutely horrendous. You can't message anybody with a free account, which basically stops you from doing anything or contacting anyone. So basically this site sucks.

I also got ripped off by these people i signed up for 6 months and set it to not auto renew. I stopped using the site two months and stopped due to the low amount of people using the site. I got a charge on my credit card for another 6 months. They will not refund it.

Yes you are right I was ripped off by them. I tried it for a month. They do not have a very large base. But the worst was that they charged my credit card after I cancelled my subscription even though I cancelled prior to the renewal date. They’re refusing to reverse the charges. Watch out for these fly by night sites and your credit cards.

Not worth it, really. Maybe it's just me, but I think it's expensive. For a silver membership the prices are:

    (1 month) $19.99
    (3 months) $44.99
    (6 months) $79.99

And without buying a silver or gold account, having a profile is useless because you can't contact anyone. They heavily moderate all you place in your profile so as to police it to stop information that could allow you to talk to members from being published. A great idea, yes, but not worth the cost.
