JoeDate is a subscriber dating service for people living anywhere. To access the site, new joiners are required to pay a one-off lifetime subscription fee of $49.95. There are no additional charges or payments. The owners claim that payment upfront ensures that all members on the site are “real-people” and that not allowing “free profiles” significantly reduces the number of scammers and time-wasters. It also means they are able to operate the site without any advertising or promotional material. JoeDate is moderated “24-hours a day” to maintain high-quality profile content, and ensure the forum rules are followed. Profiles appearing on the site are required to have at least one photo. Members do have the option to keep their photos private (making them visible only to friends) or public.
These measures help to ensure that JoeDate is largely populated with people who are real, and serious about finding a date, or a long-term partner. However since payment is required upfront, this does mean that there isn’t an opportunity to “try-out” the service, beforehand, and prospective members will have little idea about what it is they are actually paying for.
