Planet Sappho
Planet Sapho is a site for lesbian singles or couples to meet other females. It’s operated by the Cupid network -- a company which runs several other personals sites. Although PlanetSapho is a UK website, it does accept members from other countries including North America, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. To join, simply choose a screen name and supply a valid email address on the home page. On verifying your email, you’ll be taken through the process of creating a profile. There are six pages here: the first pages will prompt you for a few basic facts about yourself and your relationship goals. There’s also a short personality test. Finally it’s possible to upload photos and/or record an introductory video on your webcam -- either of these steps can be skipped until later.
Quick searches, including links to show people online, recently joined, or popular members are accessible from the search tab which is visible on most pages. The advanced search enables whittling down profiles by aspects such as sexual type (butch, feminine, sporty dyke, androgynous etc.) and "out" status.
There's also has a live chat system, so you may be surprised with popup messages inviting you to chat with someone. There are two chat options: text chat, or webcam chat. I also received 6 email messages, all within one-hour of joining up. As this is a commercial site, most options require subscribing to one of the paid packages. Free members can perform searches, and express interest (virtual winks) but can’t send (or read) emails or view full size photos. The “activity” link provides a handy record of profiles you’ve browsed, as well as those who’ve browsed your profile. It will also tell you if any users have asked for your photo.
The site is well laid out with many useful features -- it’s also easy to use. One minor complaint is that it can be rather slow at times.
