@Barry This site absolutely sucks. Little to no responses, read/deletes, unread/deletes and the selection is weak. This is a dating site, yet the women do not take it seriously, IMO. I have written "Markus" on ways he can improve this site, but apparently he enjoys making money on all the ads as well as the other half of POF...the pay side...where you pay to get a gold dot on your profile entitling you as a "serious dater". How pathetic is that!

I think he as a way of allowing the unattractive profiles to nest into the free side and the hot ones get a free ride on the pay side. I have never seen so many unattractive women vs good-looking ones on a site then POF. The ratio is like 15 to 1. I have noticed quite a bit of hot Canadian women, so I think POF caters to them more so than Americans.

POF has a little-known secret of using cookies in your Adobe Flash Player to track you. If you get banned and try to setup a new account, deleting regular browser cookies, rotating your IP, etc, won't work until you clear your Adobe Flash Player cookies. They will just ban that new account. You stop their tracking by deleting the Adobe Flash Player cookies.

I too found the women rude, or perhaps it's the format of the site that allows them to appear rude. A programming change is needed. The site mods and admin are ridiculous and obviously made this site to find dates for themselves because they are unfit to date in the real world.

It's an okay site. I have really given it a chance cuz I'm afraid I'll get some weirdo. Also it seems every time you sign up on a site paid or not paid all everyone wants is to get in your pants. No one can have a simple conversation with you. I'm so sick of it. Are there any true sites where you can meet someone without the SEX.

POF is down a lot compared to other sites and no one is there to contact about it. It is one person total in the whole company with no help. Also it has deleted my account twice and I didn't do anything wrong, just happened out of the blue each time. VERY frustrating and not worth it even if it's free...

I think you can meet all types anywhere, whether it be online or in person. You just have to pay attention to yourself and its warnings. Be smart, there is always someone looking to take advantage of someone. I have met for the most part, nice people. There are a few of those bad guys, but I've met them in the real world. I like POF, I just listen to myself about any one.

I think what Markus has done none of the so called corporate gurus have been able to do: Been a single person transforming and taking the dating world by storm is recommendable. Probably all those big companies have to share in a Big pond. Markus has all the Pond to Himself No wonder he is called BigFISH.

Marcus was written up in the wall street Journal. He makes approximately $800,000 a month. So for him plenty of fish is a godsend 10 million a year. I know 4 women who tried it and 2 men in 5 years they have met no people it reeks of scam but what is say is that free dating sites are scams and this is the largest in the world. It is like craigslist, there you get infiltrated by prostitutes, here you get fakers.

POF is full of fake profiles. The same people are on there, ie nobody meets anyone. Very odd.

For you people who cannot sign into POF after signing up. I have and can without any problem created two + profiles on that site. What you need to do is, create for yourself a new email address, only one user per email address is allowed. It also might be worth deleting all your temp internet files, cookies, history etc. Not that you should have more than one profile at a time, but sometimes if you have been off the site you might like to create a new profile. Also the site does have very good filters, so you can avoid to some extent having people you are not interested in contact you. As for all the sados, you should not meet someone unless you have seen a good close up photo of them, and then meet for a coffee only date, in a public place without travelling for miles to meet. I have met some right sados etc but also met some very genuine people. At the end of the day, it's just another form of communication, albeit a little back to front from the normal dating. But it is a changing world, long gone are the days of the Barn dance. The post I read above have all had some valid and interesting comment, both the good and bad ones are true. I guess we can all be lucky you just never know where you will find love. PS, girls don't be a door matt for some of these guys.

For the second time in a year, I registered for POF. I am a normal, healthy, very attractive, employed woman. I am not on food stamps; I do not live in a trailer park and I am not afraid to show my face, wrinkles and all. What did I get in return? Responses from men, who even after a few POF emails, never followed through. Now listen I was married for 27 years (I left him) and in a long term relationship for 10....I know men. The creeps that inhabit POF would show interest, ask for either my home email or my phone number (which I freely gave them) and then NOTHING! Yet, they appeared online when they were supposed to be calling to introduce themselves.

I am not that hard up for a date or companionship that I will ever go back to POF. One dude kept making salacious remarks, thinly veiled, and always followed by "Please be smiling". When I told him his sexual innuendo was inappropriate for the short time we corresponded, he had the audacity to get angry at me, saying, "that's who I am!" Good, tell it to your hand......

Never again........it's truly sad that eye to eye contact has been replaced by the smiley face and dating has evolved into this.

Actually, I believe POF goes off the IP address. I can not get on the site. It doesn't matter how many email addresses I try, if I attempt to register from my lap top I get booted - within 5 minutes of being registered and accepted. I don't know why. It's more frustrating than anything. I agree with some other comments that the site tends to attract the lowest quality singles. Many are down on their luck and penniless, say they have jobs and don't, say they are younger than they are, say they are divorced when they aren't, post fake pictures, etc. The site really draws the lowest of the low. With one exception - I made a very good friend there who I am still friends with. He too, though, presented himself as if he were rich and younger than he was. Ended up he is dirt poor and about ten years older than his picture. He was so nice I let it slide.

There is a significantly low response rate for guys on this site. The site is very time consuming to use.

Under that scenario, guys that are pretty good catches won't stick around too long as they can do better elsewhere with less effort. What's left over are the guys chasing sex, the guys in the model range in looks and the guys that are at best average or below.

Women tend to be quite picky about little things that don't really matter much. That explains some of the low response rate. The other reason is just the male/female ratio is quite high. It's actually much higher than simply counting male/female members. The ratio that matters is the number of guys interested in a particular woman ... this can be exceptionally high ... much much higher than that woman would ever experience in real life. That level of competition would not interest most guys who are pretty good catches as they really don't need to put themselves in that situation, to meet women.

The actual number of people on the site is grossly overestimated in effective terms. While there may indeed be 1000's of profiles on the site, the reality is only a small percentage of those profiles are active on the site. In a large city maybe only 300-500 women are truly active, even though there may be 10000 woman profiles. So, you don't actually have access or available a large number of women, but effectively the same number of women you would have access to at any large gathering like a dance hall or event.

In fact, for any dating site, including POF, if you looked at the effective numbers rather than the professed numbers, you would discover there is a lot of smoke and mirrors around dating sites regarding members, effectiveness etc. For the most part it is just a game of BS with numbers.

POF is actually quite good at providing the illusion of a large number of available people and it's intentional. The reality is, for any one person, there are certainly less than 50 people that would be a reasonable match. No more than you would get at any reasonably large place/event. If POF had a cross match facility, this would become very obvious to most people.
