I tried the 3 day free trial. It began late on 8/27 and was supposed to expire on 8/30. On 8/29 at 11:18 pm, I initiated a cancellation request. The way to cancel is obscure. You must find and click on "Billing History" and then on a button titled "Cancel Repeat Billing". Once I found that and followed the instructions, there was a code to enter and verify and then you need to wait for another message.
Here's the message I received: "We'll send the cancellation code to the following e-mail address. "xxxxx.xxx" (my email address). The Cancellation code will arrive at your e-mail address within an hour. This code will be valid for two days."
I got the email with a cancellation just before midnight on 8/29. When I logged in just after midnight, I found I was already charged for another month, $34.99. When I entered the cancellation code, I got a message saying that I was a member for another month. When I called customer service and then wrote to them, they refused to refund the amount even though the cancellation was initiated on 8/29. They also take over 24 hours to respond to any email concerning billing.
Beware of this type of practice. If they are that anxious to bill you and not refund you, then it shows this group is generally dishonest in its dealings with the customer. The other thing to beware is the fact that a lot of the messages and winks you might receive are not always initiated by another member. When you reply, they say they did not wink at you.
This is not a legitimate site.

Hi - I keep getting winks from women in Ohio? Never gave them my credit card for the "Free" trial. Buyer beware! Many dating sites do this from what I understand, Match.com and eharmony. Plentyoffish is also a great site as it's free and they appear to make money on advertising (not on your back).
@Dave Well i have been on Cupid.com for about 6 months or so, i have met a lot of interesting women and they say they are in the United States but actually they are in another country because they are buying gold, art and etc. Why post that you are in the United States but actually in another country and also all of them said their parents died in a car accident when they were young. Is there any woman in the United Sates that is on Cupid? I sure would love to know? And i am being charged 39.00$ a month to find this out for myself. What the heck is really going on?
I am 42 years old and have been very happily married for many years. I have never signed up on this site, nor would I in a million years. Yet I'm getting billed $29.99 a month for the past 5 months. Sometimes it just happens to work out that you picked on the wrong person. You may know my name but you don't know who my family is....They happen to be very high government officials; I've read all the BS about this site.... Now it's time for me to copy these complaints and let my relatives, friends and the government take over and do their job. They will pull your plug so fast and you'll probably go broke; because you ARE going to pay everyone back every cent due them. I'm already calling my Dad and my Uncle. Neither one will be very happy about this situation; especially when you've taken money fraudulently from my Father's daughter and all those other people. See you in Washington and not the State. Also if this is deleted or retouched in any way there will be one more charge to add to the sheet of charges against your business practices now. I expect an immediate reply to these comments, I'll give you 24 hours. Remember, don't remove it.
Cupid.com is one of the main fraud website as far as online dating is concern. They've ripped me off 3 months and other people I've heard similar stories. Beware nothing good comes from them.
What a total scam and phishing site. Do not use them and report them to BBB. I actually never did business with this site nor did I sign up for any of those other sites which look like sex sites. They are a scam and work with a group of other sites. I get an email in my gmail stating:
Hello XXXXXX, Thank you for joining Cupid.com! Congratulations! Your profile has been transferred successfully. Here are all the details you'll need to log on to the site: Your screenname is: XXXXXXXXXXX, Your password is: XXXXXXXXX (a password I have never used-they gave it to me and expect me to use this?!)
I have never joined this site ever. I believe they stole my info from another site through phishing b/c the only sites I use are legit sites that have been in business for a long time. When I called their number, the guy, who I believe is not based in NY (from another country) states, "Which site are you talking about?" basically this number is for several different sites. Then the guy asked me if I clicked on a link to cupid.com through another dating site and states that clicking on the link can automatically sign you up? ummm excuse me!!!????.
I said "I'm not sure, even if I did...that should not indicate transferring of information or automatic sign-up!" I know I didn't click on any link. I am very cautious about this. This site is basically a scam, they steal your info... Please help to shut them down. Consumers should be protected. Now I fear they have my info and passwords, who knows? Report them to Better Business Bureau.
Cupid now automatically signs you up with their other scam dating services such as girlsdateforfree and benaughty. Years ago I met a lot of women on cupid in person in my area. It was a good dating site that I could get a free month for reporting fake profiles. Easy enough. You could also leave your contact email in code. I couldn't believe how many broads I met on there.
Now it is nothing but a scammers paradise tailored to the artificial beings. I get spam mail daily from my account from 3 years ago, and now spam mail from all their affiliated scam sites I mentioned above. What once was a reputable dating site has figured out their flaws in their stupid programming and now focuses on baiting people.
I can't even remove my account without pulling all my hair out in frustration. Time for a DDOS attack.
Cupid.com is the worst dating site going, total scam. I have never had so many young women supposedly interested in me, yeah right, in my dreams, and they all live in my area, until you click on their profile and surprise, surprise they suddenly live miles away, when you confront the person they reply stating that you are also living in their area. Would wisely advise stay well clear, as they have a policy of saying it's a technical fault, only problem is the problem is never solved. I wonder why.
@Navile Hi Navile, try a free alternative such as plentyoffish.com or Okcupid.com - okcupid has a similar name but it is completely different, free and legit. You can pay for extras but the basic signup is free and fully functional.
http://www.benaughty.com
http://www.cupid.com
http://milfberry.com
http://www.sexintheuk.com
are all the SAME site. A search reveals the IDENTICAL list of results.
I have also been scammed by Cupid.com plc in the UK. Foolishly I was lured in by the number of single women supposedly responding to my profile. All turned out to be fake. Admittedly there are some real people on the site, but the majority of the ones either aren't real or aren't the person you would be expecting.
I am surprised this company is allowed to continue to operate. Unfortunately they are making so much money that no one seems to care about their illegitimate practises. They are listed on the public markets in London... incredible! Buy a share then attend the shareholder annual general meeting to tell them what rascals they are.
Signed up for cupid.com a month and half ago. So far 4 out of the 5 men I talked to hit me up for money within a week of talking to them with various sob stories about how much they loved me (for real?) and they were stuck somewhere and needed money. Don't waste your money or your time with this site.
I am a single straight male. I signed up with them with a free account. Soon after I realized I dislike it and I unsubscribed from everything and I closed my account. Soon after I did that they started sending me chats and emails. I went there, logged in (my account wasn't closed!) and closed it again and made screenshot copies (for legal purposes). Then they started sending me male profiles!! I went and closed my account (supposed to be closed already!) again! Then they sent me confirmation by email that my account is closed. The next day same story - they sent me email, and chats from women. Then I sent an email to the admin (owned by Cupid.com) with the last notice to never be contacted again by them. No stars would be the best rating.
I signed up on accident. I did the trial but their version of an expiration date differs from mine I guess. Now I get charged an "International Transaction Fee" of 9 cents at least twice a day. I just emailed them but I guess that sounds like it's a moot point. What a joke.
@gerard Have just had to request cancellation code etc etc ...... luckily I set up account through paypal. If you have - or anyone out there has paypal and is having this kind of trouble, access your paypal account and cancel subscription re: cupid. If you don't have paypal go to your bank ASAP and TALK to someone.

@Navile Try OK Cupid. I find that you do get a legitimate search and it's free! All in your area as well. Even emailing, you actually can email a member and vice versa.
Use PayPal they do the cancelling for you, cupid can't do anything about it lol.
Cupid is not much different than all the other dating sites except Plenty of Fish which is actually free. I've been a member at Cupid for awhile. In fact I think I actually paid for a month at one point. The goal is to get you to pay and then hope you don't cancel in time. They bill you one day prior to the expiration date. The site probably has less than a thousand paying members out of millions.
I haven't logged on for almost a year. Logged on yesterday and updated my profile. I live in south central PA and when searching for online members for 40-50 years olds within 100 miles (which includes Philly, Balt, DC, etc) I get between 1 and 8 members. In less than a day I have 10 winks, 30 emails, and 40 views. Hell, there aren't that many paying members in my 100 mile area. All they want is to lure you into paying them.
It's just like 'Zoosk' and 'Are You Interested' (AYI) that appears on FaceBook and lures people in. Steer well clear of these dubious products and most of all the dubious people that use them. One of the users on there I noted 'LoopyJules' had been a user of Love@Lycos back in 2003 and she hasn't aged a day. ;o) Soon get caught out. I won't even rate Cupid.con because they do not deserve a rating of any sort.
@Ray Does anybody here know any alternative to Cupid.com that is actually legit and have real members on it? Don't wanna invest money in a scam.
Not worth your time in the slightest!! CUPID.com the company and the website is one BIG SCAM!! Cupid.com is full of fake members who wink and email you as soon as you sign up for basic membership then disappear as soon as you become a paid member. You have to become a paid member before you can find out who's been emailing. In either case Cupid.com has NO CUSTOMER SERVICE department and will not respond to any billing or questions you might have. That should tell you plenty about the true nature of Cupid.com
Cupid.com also hosts people from Nigeria whose goal is to act as American's living in America they then get to some story about how they lost all their money and need yours for some trip back to America. Cupid.com has no comment with regards to these people and makes no effort to remove their membership or limit their activities. In other words Cupid.com is complicit in the crimes, is not interested in what you have to say about it in addition to taking your money as a paid member, should you ever choose to become a paid member. I am no longer a member and have closed my account completely with them. Not worth your time in the slightest!! Actually, my advice would be to forget these online dating websites, just use Facebook.com and mingle with real people if online at all.
