I tried the 3 day free trial. It began late on 8/27 and was supposed to expire on 8/30. On 8/29 at 11:18 pm, I initiated a cancellation request. The way to cancel is obscure. You must find and click on "Billing History" and then on a button titled "Cancel Repeat Billing". Once I found that and followed the instructions, there was a code to enter and verify and then you need to wait for another message.

Here's the message I received: "We'll send the cancellation code to the following e-mail address. "xxxxx.xxx" (my email address). The Cancellation code will arrive at your e-mail address within an hour. This code will be valid for two days."

I got the email with a cancellation just before midnight on 8/29. When I logged in just after midnight, I found I was already charged for another month, $34.99. When I entered the cancellation code, I got a message saying that I was a member for another month. When I called customer service and then wrote to them, they refused to refund the amount even though the cancellation was initiated on 8/29. They also take over 24 hours to respond to any email concerning billing.

Beware of this type of practice. If they are that anxious to bill you and not refund you, then it shows this group is generally dishonest in its dealings with the customer. The other thing to beware is the fact that a lot of the messages and winks you might receive are not always initiated by another member. When you reply, they say they did not wink at you.

This is not a legitimate site.

@Ray People, the best way to get around a site that deliberately delays cancellation which causes more funds being drawn from your credit card is to go straight to the bank and say I did not authorise this transaction. You need to fill out a form and then the monies are refunded to you. If enough people do this then the credit card companies stop the site from trading.

I have used this on several sites that take money without authorisation or make it difficult to cancel subscriptions in time to stop the next month's payment.

Just wanted to thank you Ray for your write up on Cupid.com, I received a email from them and it sounded and read very nice, that is until I decided to do a search and saw your post and others with the truth, I don't know how others feel but I do know how I feel and I would think in this day & age at a time when so many are struggling just to make it through another week or month saving what they can and unable to get out to meet up with new people, thinking to themselves Wow I can check on matches in the comfort of my own home, only to find out the only matches you see or have is the $29.95 a month that is being deducted from your checking account or credit card. If I caught someone stealing from me month after month we have some options, confront them, press charges or the old-school way & take them to a back alley and get mid evil on them. Something needs to be done and put into place to not only Stop but put a fear to all similar sites that we have had enough, just because they don't have a gun to your back and telling you to give them your wallet or purse, they are no different and out to do the same thing and that is to steel, to lie and to hurt another, and I'm sick of it.
